The challenges of running multiple solar plants

Why did 9REN opt for a Wonderware solution? It was to answer three main challenges.

  • The company’s operations monitoring facilities are geographically dispersed throughout Spain and Italy -- this dynamic required a solution that could adequately address the inherent challenges, such as complex communications protocols for data transmission and differing time zones.
  • 9REN Group had to develop and implement a single control system to supervise various types of installations including photovoltaic, low temperature solar thermal and wind operations
  • As the adoption of alternative energy sources increases, the software solution had to provide scalability to include future installations

After much deliberation, 9REN decided to use Wonderware InTouch HMI and System Platform. Why they chose Wonderware will be the subject of my next post.
